The "TMC-Compact" from "TMC" is a state-of-the art portable Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter with a built in integrated C-Arm Image Intensifier. The "TMC-Compact" offers a high quality treatment of renal urinary calculi at an affordable price and with very operational cost. The "TMC-Compact" is small sized giant and is probably the smallest lithotripter in the World.

The system which is a single piece unit includes a Vega-III shock wave
Generator, a motorized 3-axis multifunctional treatment table, a control panel and components for focusing.

SHOCK WAVE GENERATOR

The Shock Wave Generator is designed to give optimum performance with very less maintenance requirement. It has a built in special reflector with a neoprene or natural latex membrane that forms a water cushion for coupling of shock waves with the human body.

TREATMENT TABLE

This table provides the user a three axes control for positioning the patient for initial focusing phase and during treatment.

IMAGING AND FOCUSSING DEVICE BUILT IN

Assessment of Stone location is performed by the fluoroscopic built in C-arm with a 6" image intensifier. Fluoroscopic localization enables the exact positioning of stone or its fragments in focus of the shock wave. An AP projection of plane followed by a 30-degree projection enables the operator to bring the stone at the focal point of the shock waves. The unit consists of a built in C-Arm with 6" Image Intensifier and has a focusing device for immediate system alignment.

EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION

The "TMC-Compact" Lithotripter mentioned is useful in the fragmentation of upper urinary tract stones i.e. renal calculi, renal pelvic stones and upper ureteral stones using the underwater spark gap technology.

The system in total is one unit incorporating the following:

1. A shock wave unit converts electrical energy into Shock wave energy, which is focused and is transferred to the patient body by a coupled flexible membrane.

2. A control unit that controls the shock wave generator during the treatment.

3. A motorized treatment table that has a motorized movement in 3-axis.

A. Description of the System
-----------------------------
The "TMC-Compact" from the "TMC" is an extra corporeal shock wave Lithotripter (ESWL) with an underwater spark discharge system. The system comprises of an ESWL unit, a control panel and a multifunctional treatment table, designed as per the latest technological aspects know how of the "TMC". The system is extremely flexible and variable. Thus it adapts easily to the requirement of the user.

The system enables an efficient, safe and economical treatment of urinary calculi. Simple handling, high patient treatment rate, an affordable price and low consequential costs increase the commercial efficiency in everyday use.

B. The Shock Wave Generator: (ESWL UNIT)
----------------------------------------
The shock Wave Generator unit is a mobile unit and can be used wherever required in the hospital due to its integrated castors.

The unit is modular in design and thus is easy to service.

Only one three-pin power outlet of 220 Volts and 15 Amps rating is required from the hospital supply to operate this unit.

C. Built in Multifunctional Treatment Table
--------------------------------------------

The patient coach has been designed to position the patient in all three-space co-ordinates. Actuated by hand switch, a motor moves the patient coach in any required position either for Lithotripsy diagnosis or any other treatment.

The built in multifunctional treatment table permits the positioning of the patient independently of the location of the calculus with the position of the user remaining the same. The table has been provided wheels for mobility, thus allowing easy displacement.

One 15 Amps three-pin plug is required as electrical connection from the Hospital supply to operate the table.

D. Operating Panel
-------------------

The Built in Control Panel is most simplified in design and operation. Safe and simple handling and compact in construction are the most flexible points supporting the user in daily use.

E. Mobile Option for "TMC-Compact":
-----------------------------------

On accounts of its compact design and modular in construction the "TMC-Compact" is ideally suited for the concept of a mobile Lithotripter.

The Concept of the Mobile Lithotripter once again increases the high commercial efficiency of the "TMC" Lithotripter the "TMC-Compact" as it can be transported from one place to another in a minibus type of automobile and treatment can be done without any special site preparation.

F. Procedure.
------------

Treatment is started with the patient being properly focalized with the point of shockwaves. A suitable intensity of the shock wave is selected by increasing or decreasing the kV of the ESWL. It is advised that treatment may be started with the least possible kV setting. The intensity maybe slowly increased during the treatment.The Lithotripter and the C-Arm is already adjusted and aligned and there is no need to adjust the C-Arm with the Shock Wave Generator.
